Germanic Vernacular Revival (1920s-1940s)

According to the town of Hagerstown Maryland Architectural Design Guidelines for the Preservation Design Districts,

” [Germanic Vernacular Revival] design incorporates elements of 18th century Germanic colonial architectural forms and traditions which were carried through Western Maryland by migrants from southern Pennsylvania.”

Identifying Features:

  • built of local limestone
  • exhibit irregular elevations
  • plans reminiscent of colonial Germanic architecture
