Economical Small House (1945-1965)

An Economical small house is a small colonial style house without decoration, usually under 1500sq ft. Designed to be added onto this style of home was inexpensive because of size, design and materials. The stark nature of these houses made them the perfect starter home for young couples to move into because that the family grew the house would have additions put on.  Today it is fairly hard to come across one of these homes that has made it through the years untouched. These are found through out all of  the United States but are most common in the eastern states.

Identifying features:

  • no decoration
  • 2000 sq ft or less
  • located in 1950s suburban environments
